Teiya is currently living and working in Tkarón:to, “the place where the trees are standing in the water.” (Kanienʼkéha language). This land, colonially known as Toronto, is governed by Treaty 13, or commonly known as the “Toronto Purchase”, and as a settler on this land, makes them and all other inhabitants treaty people, responsible for its current and future health. Teiya acknowledges the past, present and future caretakers and stewards of this land that have gone recorded and unrecorded since time immemorial. It is the traditional territories of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Wendat peoples, and is also home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
